5 reasons to give PARASITE a try
So, Parasite has been a pretty controversial topic wherever I have been, since the premiere of the film and up until it won the Oscar for Best Motion Picture this year.
People seem to think it’s either freaking brilliant, or rather overrated. In my humble opinion, it was one of the strongest nominated films this year (followed by The Irishman) and it probably deserved the little golden fellow.
If you are wondering whether to watch it, here are my top 5 reasons why you probably should:
#1: ITS ORIGINALITY
Some people find the film unrealistic, but in truth Bong Joon-ho and Han Jin-won have created a very original screenplay in a time when originality is honestly rare and much much needed.
Scorsese had a point when he said that nowadays movies have become bland attractions that substitute storytelling with C.G.I. Screenplays seem to have stopped mattering to a lot of people. Well, not for Parasite fans. The movie is extremely original from the start, and it just gets more and more surprising by the minute.
#2 ITS METAMORPHOSIS
It’s not my intention to spoil anything, so I won't get into detail. I will, however, say that Parasite is, in a way, two completely separate movies. Half-way through the film, all its main elements (storyline, style, even music) change significantly, shocking the spectator with a humongous dissimilarity between beginning and end.
#3 ITS METAPHORS AND SYMBOLISM
Parasite is, without a shadow of a doubt, a symbolic movie. The different lifestyles of the characters are not just discussed but also shown through several and diverse metaphors(smells, body language, godifications...).
It truly is a fun thing to try to uncover them all.

#4 ITS SHAKESPEAREAN CONTRASTS
Much like in a Shakespearean play, all the characters in Parasite are opposite to each other, and much like in a Shakespearean play, the consequences of their actions soon reveal a social truth we may not be very comfortable with. In this motion film, the lesson is told in a fresh, artistically crafted narrative that will leave you speechless...
The talent of the actors is just the icing on the cake.

#5 THE EDITING
... And if that is not enough, the editing and photography of the film are quite stunning. It may not be the most distinctive aspect of Joon-ho´s style (screenplay is), but Parasite elegantly uses many audiovisual tools to pass on to the spectator the character's feelings and states of mind (slow mos, choreographed fighting, close-ups, silences...).
Have I convinced you yet?
